boston university school of theology raíces latinas program in theology, leadership, and research

Established in 2019, the Boston University School of Theology (STH) Raíces Latinas Program in Theology, Leadership, and Research (RLP) offers students the opportunity to pursue Latin American and Latinx studies, leadership formation, and research as they complete their degree program. The RLP builds collaborative partnerships across Boston University, the church, and the broader community, drawing on the multi and inter-disciplinary interests of STH and its faculty. Alongside the Ráices Latinas Student Association, the RLP is the cornerstone of STH’s commitment to Latinx initatives and support of Latinx students.

The RLP offers a Theology and Latinx Studies Certificate for STH masters students.

Raíces Latinas Leadership INstitute

The Raíces Latinas Leadership Institute is a semillero where Latinx college students from various Christian traditions discern their vocations and cultural identities, empowered to access graduate education to flourish as leaders in the church, academy, and society.


The Institute's curriculum includes leadership development, discernment and refinement of call, consideration of graduate degrees, contextual service learning, theological reflection, and deep experiential reflection. The Institute meets once a year.

    Co-Chair

    Cristian is an associate dean and a professor of Practical Theology at the Boston University School of Theology. She is an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church.

    Assistant Director for Administration

    Mayra is a graduate student at the Boston University School of Theology pursuing a Master of Divinity. She is pursuing ordination in the United Methodist church and has worked with vulnerable populations in the Rio Grande region of the United States and Mexico.
